The microphone

The app uses the microphone only after you tap Start, and stops when you tap Stop. Sound is turned into words on the phone and then thrown away as it goes. No recording is kept. No sound is ever sent anywhere.

Your conversations

The words the app writes down stay on your phone, inside the app. They are never sent to us or to anyone else.

• Tap Clear to erase the conversation on screen.
• The app keeps your 30 most recent conversations. Older ones are removed as new ones are saved.
• Saved conversations are under the gear, then History. Swipe one to delete it, or tap Delete all sessions.
• Deleting the app deletes all of them.
• If you back up your iPhone, your conversations are inside your own backup, like your other apps. That backup is between you and Apple. We cannot see it.
• If you tap Share on a conversation, it goes where you send it. That is the one time words leave the app, and only because you asked.

The internet

The app does not need the internet and does not use it. It works in Airplane Mode. Everything it needs to turn speech into words is inside the app when you install it.

Paying for the app

If you buy Hearing Words Forever or Hearing Words Yearly, Apple handles the payment through the App Store, under Apple's own privacy policy. We receive no name, card number, email, address, or Apple ID.

The app asks Apple, on your phone, whether you have bought it, and uses the answer to decide whether Start is unlocked. We run no server that checks purchases, and nothing about your purchase is sent to us.

To count your free hour, the app keeps a note of how many minutes you have used. That note is kept on your phone, in the iPhone's own secure storage, so it is not lost if you delete and reinstall the app. It is a number of minutes and nothing else.

Crash and health notes

Your iPhone gives each app a short daily summary of how the app is running: how much memory it used, and whether it crashed or froze. Hearing Words saves the last two weeks of these summaries inside the app, on your phone. They contain no sound and no words from your conversations. The app never sends them anywhere, and deleting the app deletes them.

Separately, if you have chosen in your iPhone Settings (Privacy & Security, then Analytics & Improvements) to share analytics with app developers, Apple may send us a report when the app crashes. That is Apple's choice to offer and yours to make, under Apple's privacy policy. It contains no sound and no words from your conversations. You can turn it off in your iPhone Settings at any time.

What we never do

• No accounts, sign-in, or email collection.
• No analytics, advertising, or tracking of any kind.
• No selling or sharing of anything about you.
• No access to your location, contacts, photos, or health information. The app never asks for them.

This website

This website collects nothing either. It has no cookies, no analytics, no trackers, no forms, and nothing loaded from other companies.

Like every website, it is delivered by a hosting company (Cloudflare), whose computers see the basic details any connection needs, such as your internet address, to send you the page and to block attacks. We do not use those details to learn about you, and we do not keep them.

If you email us

If you write to us, we receive your email address and what you choose to send. We use it only to answer you, and we delete it when it is no longer needed. We never add you to a mailing list.

Children

The app is not made for children and collects nothing from anyone of any age.

Changes

If this page changes, the new version appears here with a new date. Because the app collects nothing, any change would be about how the app is delivered, not about you.
